The Historical Museum of Serbia collects, preserves, registers, and studies materials related to the history of Serbia, maintains and completes the museum collections, as well as the information and documentation on them, and makes them available to the public. In addition, through museum exhibitions, it responsibly and competently articulates and interprets the knowledge of the past not only of Serbia and the Serbian people but also of the other peoples and cultures that have lived and still live in the territory of Serbia from the Middle Ages to the present.
For more than half a century of work, the experts at the Museum have collected a large number of objects important for the history of Serbia, the Serbian people, and other peoples and cultures on the territory of Serbia.
Over 35,000 items have been organized into 23 collections and four funds.
